| The village of Frigiliana, and particularly the historic part is a village of unparalleled beauty. The architecture recalls the pure Moorish style while respecting changes through the centuries. Thankfully, the people who live here enjoy showing their love for the town by their actions. They can be seen constantly white-washing their houses and cleaning their corners of the cobblestone streets and passageways, keeping them spotless in the same way as has been the custom for centuries. In the spring, the courtyards and patios and terraces are overflowing with flowers, which turn a stroll through town into a sweet-smelling dream. Everything they have done has earned the town well-deserved awards and honors making Frigiliana the most honored town in Axarquia.The first time you visit you will be overwhelmed and surprised at how beautiful and sparkling clean a village can be. To follow one of the many narrow passageways is to run the risk of succumbing to the enchantment of the streets. Nerja on the coast is only 10 kilometres away. Nerja a popular resort, readily accessible from Malaga and its international airport, with motorway access to within a mile of the town centre. Nestling in the foothills of the mountains, the old town, with its narrow, vehicle restricted, cobbled streets, offers a more relaxed holiday from that found in the big resorts further along the coast. With small picturesque bays, the famous 'Balcon de Europa' promenade, numerous small shops, bars and restaurants, and its wonderful all year round climate, Nerja has something for all seasons, especially for families and the more mature holiday maker. Local Excursions The Nerja Caves, one of Spain's biggest tourist attractions, are well worth a visit. A extensive network of fascinating underground caverns with the World's biggest stalactites, plus an auditorium and stage where the annual music and arts festival takes place. Nearby is Maro, a picturesque village with panoramic views across the sea and a small, secluded beach invisible from the cliff top. The mountains shelter many small attractive villages, notably Frigiliana with its restored Roman town and narrow vehiclefree cobbled streets. Further afield is the historic city of Grenada with its famous Alhambra Palace (prebooking advised). Malaga and beyond to Puerto Banus also provide a great day out, as do visits to Mijas, Antequara and the El Torcal National Park. |
